On this tour, the masterpieces of the Byzantine & Ottoman Era will be visited.

St. SOPHIA: The magnificent Byzantine Church is now a spectacular museum; one of the finest and largest architectural works of art in the world.
HIPPODROME: The former centre of sportive and political activities of Constantinople. During the visit it will be possible to see the Obelisk from Egypt, the Serpentine Column from Delphi and the German Fountain of Wilhelm II.
TOPKAPI PALACE: The former imperial residence from where the great Ottoman Empire was once ruled. Today a spectacular museum that has one of the largest collections of a Royal Family on display (Treasury, Chinese Porcelain, Calligraphy, etc.)

BLUE MOSQUE
: One of the biggest mosques of Istanbul from 17th century, famous for its blue tiles and 6 minarets. The tour concludes with a spectacular show and lecture on Turkish carpets at the School of Hand Woven Silk and Wool Carpets.

GRAND COVERED BAZAAR: In addition to its historical importance, this world's biggest bazaar with over 4000 shops will tempt even the non-shoppers with its rich collection of handmade carpets, jeweles, leather and souvenirs (closed on Sundays).

DOMES OF ISTANBUL TOUR

Visit of St. Sophia Museum. The church of Holy Wisdom, created a revolution in architecture when it was completed in 537 during the reign of Emperor Justinian. It was turned into a mosque by the Ottomans in 1453. Now a museum, it is the major Byzantine relic in the city.
Visit of the Underground Cistern; the vast columned cavern was the water source for both the Grand Palace of the Byzantine and for the Ottomans' Topkapı Palace.

Following the visit, lunch will be served at Asitane Restaurant next to the

church. It is housed in a 19th century mansion restored as the Kariye Hotel, an intimate but elegant building constructed in the Ottoman style with a lovely, peaceful summer terrace and a rose garden.

Visit of the Chora Museum; a small Byzantine church decorated with extraordinary century-old frescoes and mosaics portraying the life and miracles of Christ. These are the most important and extensive series of Byzantine paintings in the city and among the most significant in the world; a precursor of the Renaissance.

Turkish Bath Experience in HistoricalCağaloğluBath,
a 18th century historic bath which was used only by the Sultans, important people of the palace and high class member of the society. Some famous characters who visited this bath were King Edward VIII, Kaiser Wilhelm, Franz Liszt and Florence Nightingale.
A traditional Turkish bath is a unique experience.
A massage, a scrub with a special glove, is wonderfully relaxing and pleasing.

Visit of the Dolmabahçe Palace known as the ‘Versailles of the Ottomans'. It was, built in the 19th century to be the new imperial residence of the Ottoman sultans. This ornate palace reflects a synthesis of late Baroque and Rococo styles and its wonderful gardens stretching along the Bosphorus delight the eye. Embodying the Turkish assimilation of European culture, the palace houses a good collection of European antiques and furniture. (closed on Mondays & Thursdays) Continue to Ortaköy, a picturesque village along the Bosphorus where the variety of people creates a lively scene. Free time to wander around.

The Bosphorus is the 32 km (20 -mi)-long water strait which joins the Sea of Marmara with the Black Sea in Istanbul, and separates the continents of Europe and Asia. It's great for a half-day cruise north toward the Black Sea.
It runs right through the heart of Istanbul, past the Istanbul Modern Art Museum, several Ottoman palaces, at least two fortresses, forested hills, and shore villages with Ottoman architecture.

Leander's Tower (aka Maiden's Tower, Kiz Kulesi in Turkish) is a small tower on an islet at the entrance of the Bosphorus from the Marmara Sea. There are numerous legends about the tower, heroes of which gave names to the tower.
The tower was built in 408 BC, rebuilt and restored many times since then. It had been used as a lighthouse and a watchtower, and now is being used for touristic purposes where you can take a boat to the tower and have your breakfast or dinner.

  • Rates quoted are in Euros, per person, including all taxes.
  • Reservations will only be confirmed after receiving full payment by credit card or bank transfer. If payment has not been received by June 01, 2011, it will be assumed that the participant no longer wishes to go on the tour/visit and the reservation will be cancelled.
  • The Organizing Committee reserves the right to cancel a tour if the minimum number of people required is not reached. In such cases, all fees will be fully refunded.

Cancellation of tours must be received in writing by Dekon (Registration Secretariat) by fax at +90 212 347 63 63, or by e-mail to registration@haptics2011.org . An administrative fee of € 10 will be applied for any cancellations on or before June 15, 2011.
Absolutely no refund will be processed for cancellations on or after June 16, 2011.
Please note that daily tour refunds will be processed within 30 days after the end of HAPTICS 2011.
