Student Exchange Program For Cross-Disciplinary
Fertilization
The Technical Committee on Haptics (TCH) invites applications for its successful Student Exchange Program for Cross-Disciplinary Fertilization.
The program will cover the travel expenses for a short-term exchange between two laboratories, with emphasis towards activities of cross-disciplinary fertilization. Applications are sought from any member of the TCH who proposes an interdisciplinary research activity.
We especially encourage young investigators, developing research groups, or colleagues from under-represented regions to submit. Funds must be used during the 2009 calendar year. Download the pdf flyer from here.
Available funds
TCH will fund, on reimbursement basis, up to $4,000 for the Student Exchange Program. We intend to support 1-2 qualified exchanges in 2009.
Application
Interested parties should submit a short proposal including the following items:
- Name of student who will visit another laboratory, affiliation, degree program, year in the program.
- Supervising researcher(s) and their affiliation(s). The student must identify and have the agreement of the researcher the student will visit. The TCH will contact the sponsor after the application has been received.
- A short description of the exchange visit and project (around 500 words).
- A preliminary budget (note that we can only reimburse travel and accommodation expenses). A supplementary financial commitment by the participating laboratories is welcome.
Please prepare the application in English.
All applications should be sent to Marcia O' Malley, Co-Chair of TCH, via e-mail, by the deadline. In the event that more applications are received than can be funded with the existing funds, an independent review committee will make the selection.
Deadline
April 15, 2009
Notification
Applicants will be notified by May 15, 2009. The instructions for submitting receipts will be provided by the TCH Vice Chair of Finance at the time of award.
