The Technical Committee on Haptics (TCH) invites applications for the 2016 Student Exchange Program for Cross-Disciplinary Fertilization.
The goal of this program is to foster student exchanges between haptics laboratories to enhance the development of cross-disciplinary research programs.
The program is intended to cover the travel expenses for short-term research-related visits between laboratories, with emphasis towards activities that encourage and strengthen interdisciplinary communication and cooperation.
Applications are sought from any member of the TCH who proposes research activity that promotes cooperation between two or more aspects of haptics research.
We especially encourage young investigators, developing research groups, or colleagues from under-represented regions to submit. Funds must be used during the 2016 calendar year
TCH will fund, on reimbursement basis, up to $1,600 US for each applicant selected for the Student Exchange Program. We intend to support 2 qualified exchange students in 2016.
Interested parties should submit a short proposal including the following items:
- Name of student who will visit another laboratory, affiliation, degree program, and year in the program.
- Supervising researcher(s) and their affiliation(s). The student must identify and have the agreement of the researcher the student will visit. The TCH will contact the sponsor after the application has been received.
- A short description of the exchange visit and project (around 500 words).
- A preliminary budget (note that we can only reimburse travel and accommodation expenses). A supplementary financial commitment by the participating laboratories is welcome.
Please prepare the application in English.
All applications should be sent via e-mail to Dr. Greg R. Luecke (firstname.lastname@example.org), TCH Vice Chair for Education, by the deadline below. In the event that more applications are received than can be funded with the existing funds, an independent review committee will make the selection.

Applicants will be notified by June 1, 2016. The instructions for submitting receipts will be provided by the TCH Vice Chair of Finance at the time of award.
